The “Friends” was set up to enable everyone who cares about Longdon, to help preserve this ancient building and its churchyard which has been at the heart of our village for almost 900 years.
The ‘Friends’ is a community group committed to the upkeep of the church building and its surrounds, as part of the architectural and social heritage of our village. The church and its churchyard is a Parish resource, meant for all, not just for church members. You may decide to become a Friend if you have some connection with the village, perhaps through relatives or friends who have lived here in the past and may have been laid to rest in the churchyard.
The costs of maintenance of the building and churchyard falls mainly on the worshipping congregation and those who give on an occasional basis. See our ‘Finance’ page for details.
The church building is usually open during the day and is available to all for weddings, funerals, baptisms etc. It is also a space for quiet reflection if needed.
The ‘Friends’ has its own ring-fenced account within the main church registered account. It is intended that this will be used for particular projects and not just day-to-day running costs. Suggestions will be welcomed.
We ask you please to join us in saving our heritage for future generations.
Friends will receive a copy of a booklet on the history of the church in Longdon, and invitations to social functions and special services.
